Smoke & Mirrors Returns Policy Online Purchases - Change of Mind 


We hope you love your purchase, but we understand that how hard it can be to visualise an item on your body without trying it on. If you have ANY questions about an item, please contact the store on BEFORE purchasing. We are happy to provide specific measurements, and additional photos. 

Only full price items are eligible for change of mind returns. As of March 2024, we now offer you the choice of a REFUND or CREDIT NOTE. Items must be returned in-store within 7 days of delivery date. Customers are liable for return shipping costs on all change of mind returns. Change of mind returns include: item is too small/large, shape doesn’t suit, found something else etc. Purchases made using a gift card as payment can only be returned for a credit note. Purchases made using a donated gift card (e.g. won in a competition or a charity prize donated by us) cannot be returned due to change of mind.

All REFUNDS will be subject to a 10% restocking fee. This is to cover the administrative costs of the return, including (but not limited to) the non-refundable credit card processing fees we pay, administrative time restocking the product, and preparing it for sale again. Shipping and insurance paid at time of purchase is non-refundable.

CREDIT NOTES will be for the full value of the product. Shipping and insurance paid at time of purchase is non-refundable.

If you have chosen 'Free Shipping on orders over $400" or used a shipping discount code at checkout and later return the item, a $10 Shipping and Handling Fee will also be deducted from your credit or refund.

Credit notes are issued as a gift card and are valid for 3 years from issue date. They can be spent in-store and online.

Example 1: Sarah bought a dress for $500 and chose free shipping at checkout. The dress was too small, and Sarah wants to return it for a refund. Sarah’s refund will be $500 – 10% restocking fee - $10 postage costs = Refund of $440. Sarah understands that return shipping is her responsibility.

Example 2: Sarah bought a dress for $500 and paid for express shipping at checkout. She also included shipping insurance for $10. The dress was too small, and Sarah wants to return it for a credit note. Sarah’s credit note will be $500. Sarah understands that return shipping is her responsibility, and that her credit note is valid for 3 years from date of issue. Sarah understands that shipping and insurance she paid at purchase are non-returnable costs.

- Returns will only be accepted if returned in-store (via post or drop off) within 7 DAYS OF DELIVERY date to you. We strongly suggest using Express Post to return items to us. 

- For Change of Mind Returns, postage is to be paid for by the customer. In the unlikely case that your item is faulty, please lodge with ROUTE SHIPPING INSURANCE before contacting the store.

- If you have not purchased Route Shipping Insurance at Checkout and have received a faulty item, please contact the store. 

- Please send us tracking information.

- We take no responsibility for returns until they are deemed delivered to us by AusPost (or your choice of carrier). 

- Clothing must be in as new, saleable condition, with all original tags attached. We will thoroughly inspect each item for makeup, fake tan, sweat, perfume, or the scent of laundry detergent. We reserve the right to refuse Change of Mind Returns if we believe the item has been worn. 

- Shoes must be in unworn, saleable condition. We highly recommend trying them on carpet. Shoes will not be accepted for Change of Mind Return if there is excessive marking on the sole, or sweat stains on the lining. 

- Due to hygiene reasons, we do not accept returns on jewellery (including earrings, necklaces, rings, and other), swimwear, or bodysuits.

- If we refuse a change of mind return due to not meeting the above conditions, return postage will be at your expense.


Please email with your order number, full name, and product being returned. Please advise why you would like to return the item. Any items returned to us without authorisation will be deemed refused, and no credit or refund will be given. We will contact you to organise return postage to you.

SALE ITEMS: No returns can be made on sale items unless they are deemed by us to be faulty. Items sold on sale are not eligible for return due to incorrect fit or size. If you have purchased an item as a second or with a known fault it cannot be returned as faulty for an exchange or refund.  

Please contact the store via email prior to returning your item to us. Any items returned to the store without authorization are deemed by us to be refused. No refund or credit will be given. 

INTERNATIONAL RETURNS: We are glad to accept change of mind returns on full price clothing and shoes from our international customers. Please contact us within 48 hours of delivery if you would like to return your item. All change of mind international returns must be in as-new and saleable condition. EXPRESS SHIPPING back to Australia is a condition of us accepting international change of mind returns, the cost of which is paid by the customer returning the item. Items must be posted within 24 hours of us authorising the return. All change of mind returns are eligible for a credit note (valid for three years), or a refund less a 20% restocking fee. Both credit notes and refunds are also less any shipping or insurance charges paid at purchase. Any items returned to us not meeting these conditions (express post, new condition) will be deemed refused and no refund will be given.




- As per above Returns Policy, if you have received a faulty item, please lodge a claim with Route Shipping Insurance, then contact the store. 

- If the fault is not major we reserve the right to repair the item within a reasonable time. 

- If the fault is major you may choose to receive either a refund or exchange (where size is available). A major fault is described as: 

  • A problem that would have stopped someone from buying the item if they had known about it. 
  • Is significantly different from the sample or description. 

You may choose a refund order exchange if an item has a major problem. This is when the item:

  • Has a problem that would have stopped someone from buying the item if they had known about it.
  • Is significantly different from the sample or description.

Please note: Smoke + Mirrors Boutique makes every effort to ensure photos and descriptions of products are accurate. Minor discrepancies between the colour of the actual item and digital photograph is not deemed to be different as described, or a fault.  Colours display differently between screens and devices. We are happy to send additional photos of items upon request prior to purchase.
